AIR BRUSH HELP!!!

I hope this helps, Im looking for a new airbrush as well and am leaning this way Thayer and Chandler omni 4000g from www.dixieart.com $69.95 free shipping. Ill let the experts take it from here.

My advice is to wait a while and save a bit more money because there isn't really much out there in that price range that is of good quality.
The airbrush that 9x19mm mentioned is a good one but it does not come with an airhose so you will have to add another $10 to the price for that.

i have an omni 5000 brush and it is superb. you can get decent (not the best) broad coverage with a thin mixture of paint (75%thinner/25% paint, i use tamiya exclusively and the tamiya brand thinner, bite the bullet, the thinner is worth it) at about 2 inches distance from the subject, and the fine line is very good from inside an inch. you have to crank the air pressure down to around 8 to 12 lbs as well. if you order from dixie art go ahead and purchase the (http://www.dixieart.com/More_Master_Cleaning_Kits.html) and youll rarely have to remove the head assembly for cleaning. you can find different brush sets for the lower prices in the same place. i got the $23 set and rarely use the larger brushes. see ya.

To be honest you really need two brushes for that. One with high paint flow to get good coverage required for that type of gloss finish and one low flow gravity feed for the detail. The iwata revolution CR might be a stop-gap as it has a .5 mm nozzle (larger than the HP-CS I have (.35 mm)) but since it's a gravity feed you should be able to get decent detail. The price is also in the ballpark.

MikeV: What's the nozzle size on the 4000G?

I have gotten to where I can get a pretty fine line with mine, but I do like saltydog talks about, thin it way down and use low low pressure. I haven't really needed to make a fine line in airbrushing models, but you never know. Plus, I just like to practice painting with it. Maybe one day I'll become Dru Blair.

On the other hand, I do have some artistic skills. I've been wanting an illustrator's airbrush and some inks or thin paints to start doing some airbrush illustration. It might take me a while to get the hang of shading with one, but I don't doubt that I can turn in some good work that way. It's all just a matter of getting started. I even have a couple of pics in mind to start with. I need a custom micron or sotar or something. Anyone have a free one they want to give me??

I would say you have some very good artistic skills. Dru Blair teaches illustration you know. Maybe you should save up and go to his classes he puts on.
