I don't think a few light mist coats is going to cut it. For an effective barrier, you want a continuous, even glossy finish overall. The tricky part is applying a coating thick enough to be an effective barrier, but thin enough as to not obscure moulded details.

Question on gloss coating.
Posted by somenewguy on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 6:51 PM

Hello. Just need to know if two or three light/misted coats of Tamiya x-22 gloss is safe enough for oil washes/fiters with Tamiya or Humbrol enamel thinner to go on top and not eat through. Cheers! Appreciate any help.
