Hey, I have tried this a few times without success and was wondering if its an Airbrush only technique or if im just doin it wrong.
Can you preshade if your hand brushing? Or should you just use a wash afterward?
I've never tried pre-shading when brush painting, only washes. I would think that the paint would go on too thick to be useful for this technique. Airbrushes can mist on the coat of paint and build up the color, something that can't really be done with brush painting.

Hmmmmm, it MIGHT be possible, but I would think you would need to really really thin the paint and then work up in multiple layers. Even then I am not sure the effect would look quite right and then all the work involved may not be worth it. I would stick to the air brush and save a lot of time and headaches.

I have preshaded by hand brushing on many occasions with good results and have never used an airbrush for this. With good MK1 Eyeballs and a steady hand you CAN do it. I recently did a preshade with brush on my Phantom and it came out pretty darn good when I primary painted color over it. So I know it can be done. The trick to it is to be patient and take your time. If you make a mistake it is very easy to fix. I suggest using a narrow flat brush. not a rounded pointed brush for doing preshading by hand. With time and practice you will get the hang of this technique. It doesnt have to be perfect... just lightly dirty.
