Mr. Color paints.
Posted by ozzman on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 7:20 PM

Hi, I am currently building Academy's 1/48th scale F14A-Bombcat, and have a problem: the paints are labeled for Mr. Color, but I only have Model Master enamels or Tamiya acrilics. Does anyone know paints that are similar colors, but are from the brands mentioned above?

The paints are:

Gray FS36375 (Mr. Color)

Flat black No. 33 (Mr. COlor)

Steel No. 28 (Mr. Color)

Burnt Iron No.61 (Mr. Color)

Clear Green No. 138 (Mr. Color)

Does anyone know what Model Master or Tamiya paints are similar to these? Thanks!

Ditto on the link, they don't list all colors as having options. Here is MM Enamel, MM Acryl & Tamiya below:

Gray FS36375 (Mr. Color) MM E 1728 MM A 4762 TAM XF66 OR
Gray FS36375 (Mr. Color) MM E 2077 MM A 4777 TAM XF19
Flat black No. 33 (Mr. Color) MM E 1749 MM A 4768 TAM XF01
Steel No. 28 (Mr. Color) None indicated
Burnt Iron No.61 (Mr. Color) None Indicated
Clear Green No. 138 (Mr. Color) Not Listed as a Mr. Color choice.

Tamiya makes a few metallic colors that may be mixed to get the steel and burnt iron, and they have a clear green.

So long folks!

Steel in MM Enamels is 1780.

Burnt Iron is available in Metalizers as 1424. I imagine Gunmetal would be close and that's 1795 in MM Enamel. If not dark enough add a drop or two of black. I thought MM Enamels had a color called Burnt Iron but I can't find it.

FS36375 is Light Ghost Grey and in MM Enamels it's 1728.

If you have a solid bright or dark green in enamel and clear enamel you can mix some clear green or use Tamiya Clear Green X25.

Flat black is, flat black. MM Enamel 1749 or Tamiya XF1.

A place to find some manufacturers color charts is http://www.rlm.at/cont/thema02_e.htm  you can download them as PDF files and save them and the color samples are large enough to see clearly.

or IPMS Stockholm has a bunch of charts and you can find FS colors. Among others.

Gray 36375. Model Master makes it

Flat Black, Tamiya and Model Master both make it

Steel- Tamiya's Gun Metal is closer to Mr Color shade than Model Master

Burnt Iron- Add some rubber or flat black to Model Master Jet Exhaust

Clear Green- Tamiya makes it.
