Rosen a hammer next to an AB just makes me cringe lol. They are delicate, no hammers please lol. Most dual-action airbrushes the trigger assembly is held in by the needle itself, simply pulling the needle out and then removing the trigger is usually the case. Be careful and take note of how the parts are arranged so when you put it back together you'll have a better idea. When pushing the needle back in DO NOT FORCE IT!!! Just put it in and gently push and let it work its way in, once you know it's in the needle bearing then your fine. Where the o-ring is should come out as well though, and you shouldn't have to take the trigger out. According to the manual, the plunger, spring, o-ring are all inside a housing that unscrews as well. If you can't get that o-ring out, I would just order a new air valve assembly with all those parts already installed and nice and new. Is it possible to post some pics? HTH moreYes

I have all that out - the nut, spring and plunger. I think I can see the washer/o-ring in there, but it won't come out. I've had ad it with a dental tool/o-ring remover, and it won't budge. Is there a way to take the trigger assembly out? The manual tells you how to replace it, but not how to remove it. I think its stuck in the washer, because I think it's supposed to pull right out, but it won't move up or down. It may be time for some carefully controlled hammer blows.

On page 2 of the manual I linked, illustration C shows an exploded view of the air valve assembly. It looks like you should be able to unscrew part 26 from the assembly. The illustration shows a slot on the bottom of that part that a micro flatblade screwdriver ought to fit. HTH some! If you're not keen on doing that, you should be able to order the whole air valve assembly (part 21).

OK, that makes some sense. But how do you get the o-ring (Paasche calls it a washer) out? I've got the body disassembled as far as I can but the whole trigger assembly is inside the body.

Rosen, you can google a paasche vl manual and it will give you an illustrated parts list,(if you haven't done that already) Inside the airvalve there is a very tiny o-ring and i'm just wondering if that has dry rotted to the point it's adhered to the sidewalls and piston. I had a similar type problem with a badger 200 long ago and when i pressed the trigger all the wayair wouldn't come out, barely pressed a little bit would come out. I noticed the feel of the trigger and it felt as if the piston was pushing through the o-ring rather than bringing it down with it to let the air out. I replaced the o ring and then it worked fine. Hope this helps some or at least shed a bit of light on the subject.Toast

I picked up a used Paasche VL airbrush this weekend. One problem - the finger trigger doesn't go down! It goes back and forth no problem. I completely dismantled it, including the air intake needle and spring, and the trigger is rock solid, like it wasn't even designed to go down.

Thinking it might be jammed with paint, I've had it soaking in mineral spirits for a couple of hours with no effect. If it's jammed with water-based acrylic, will the mineral spirits do any good? What do you use to dissolve old acrylic? Or is it something else I'm missing? The tech guy at Paasche was baffled too. He had never heard of this happening.
