Squirell Cage fans.....
Posted by cruz on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 7:30 PM

I am putting together a spraybooth and need to find out options on buying a squirell fan, I decided that this is what I want to use but would like to know where to get them. I realize they are expensive and have checked out a company called Grainger that sells them, I just don't want to spend more than 100 dollars on one of them. Any ideas where I might be able to get one? Home Depot? Lowe's?

You got to pay to play. How big a booth are you going to build? I used a 4C447 Dayton that's no longer available at Grainger but the alternate PSC blower is 1TDR3 for $92.10. It's gone up a bit since I bought one, $67. My booth isn't that big, about 18" cubed, but this blower is good and would probably work fine in a larger booth. Unless they've changed I couldn't find anything like it at a Lowes or Home Depot.

I have photos and a description of my spraybooth on my blog:

Squirrel cage fans are pretty easy to find on eBay, with and without motors.  Search under carpet cleaning equipment.  That's where I got mine.  After having built one, I don't think I'll use a squirrel cage next time.  IMHO, and from my experience, it's overkill as far as safety is concerned.  Unless you thin your paints with gasoline, I wouldn't spend the extra money on a squirrel cage.

I bought mine from Grainger, and would recommend them. They had a large selection, good prices and very good service. When you consider a good blower can easily last you 20+ years, it really isn't that big of an expense.

I'm a big fan of squirrel cages. I hate the little buggers. They sit in my trees off my deck and screech at me, and then they eat all the bird seed.

Oh. Wait, you mean something else. Never mind! Wink

So long folks!
