Hi I'm planning on getting an airbrush for the first time, the Iwata HP-C+.
I have a 'normal' (non-hobby) aircompressor.
Will I need to get some kind of moisture filter? In-line one I assume? Or is this kind of optional?
Will i need any special connectors or hoses or other accessories? I think I will order from bearair.com they sell
" 10' Paasche Braided Hose 1/4"-1/4" PSHL-3/16"-10' "
Will this work with the HP-C+?
Anything else important to know?
Thanks
If you are buying a new genuine Iwata airbrush, get your airhose from the seller at the same time. Not only you assure compatible hose thread, you save in shipping. BTW, all Japanese, German, Chinese or Taiwanese made airbrush use the same standard thread and their hoses are interchangable. But the Badger and Paasche airhose are different in size, thus, will not work with an Iwata airbrush.
If you are receiving the Iwata HP-C+ as a gift, you can get the Iwata hose at a Hobby Lobby Store for $12 with the 40% coupon. It is cheaper than mail order.
If you are using a tools or garage compressor, it is likely that the outlet is a 1/4" NPT thread quick disconnect. You will need a "male" 1/4" NPT thread quick disconnect adaptor for your airbrush hose. The are available from Lowes, Home Depot or Harbor Freight. The NPT thread is standard in the US only. Most of the airbrush hose likely will have a BSP thread (British Standard Pipe Thread) at the compressor end. The BSP is standard for the rest of the world. It is close enough to the NPT that they can work together with some telfon tape. Just be really careful to check for leak.
If your "normal" compressor (if there is such a thing) is oil lubricated, It may add oil to the airstream for airtools lubraction. If it is, make sure to clean the oil out before using the airbrush. Lubricating oil is the worst enemy to paints. With a tools compressor, a moisture trap is mandatory. See the other post on the moisture trap topic.
If you need specific advise, be specific about where you get the airbrush and what compressor you will use. Good luck.
