I have my eye on a Grex pistol style airbrush but I'm concerned about the specifications say the operating psi range is 14 to 80. My Iwata Ninja Jet Compressor only goes to 18 psi. Looking a little closer, all of Grex's airbrushes say 14 to 80 psi. Doesn't that seems a bit high?

I would imagine 80psi is the advised maximum for the brush, in other words not to be exceeded. Most brushes are advertised with a max of somewhere between 50 & 100psi.
I think my airbrush has a 90psi rating, but my compressors maximum output is only about 80 - no problem. However if I had a garage compressor pumping out 150psi & I fed this directly into my brush, either the brush or hose may go boom - hence the reason for the maximum rating.

To be more precise, I am concerned about the minimum pressure being high. Isn't it pretty common to shoot at pressures well below 14 psi? And if so, would the Grex be able to do it?
I see your point - I have never sprayed at anything below 10psi, as my brush wont really do much below that pressure. That said, I think the minimum usable pressure would be dictated by the viscosity of the paint as much as the brushes usable minimum pressure?
I have read more than a few reviews of the Grex's brushes & I have never seen anyone comment on a low pressure issue - I could be wrong, but I don't think it is anything to be concerned about.
Possibly someone with first hand experience on Grex brushes will chime in to confirm this??
Grex airbrushes has no problems handling low pressures.
Better an airbrush in the hand, than ten in the car....

The high pressure is an indication on how well made the Grex airbrush is. You probably want to get a compressor better than the Iwata Ninja Jet Compressor to match the Grex. It will give you more flexibility in the type of paint and in thinning.
If you thin enough, you can use the Grex with a Ninja.
I shoot gloss paints at about 15 psi, but do use 20 for flats. I feel it gives me a flatter finish. However, I have used the 15 value at times when I was too lazy to reset the regulator. It works okay, just not quite as flat.
