Hey all - eager for your thoughts on this color mixing quandary I'm finding myself in. I'm trying to mix up a batch of the bluegrey the Navy used early in WWII for my Dauntless WIP.
The Vallejo Dark Blue Grey that's supposed to be a match seems both a touch too dark and too green/blue. You can see it on the very end of the stabilizer in the picture. I've been trying to rein it in on both fronts, and make it a touch lighter and less saturated, with mixed results. To my eye, the best so far seems to be the next band in, a 2:1 mix of DBG and Light Grey.
It still feels a bit off compared to this reference Dauntless, though.
I'm thinking that maybe subbing out the Light Grey (which is a very cool-hued grey) with a darker, warmer grey might do the trick, or at least get me close. Am I on the right track? Any other ideas?
