Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it it must have been the clear coats. That stuff is JUST clear hardener, no tinting particles like paint would have. A couple of coats of that probably would seal something up pretty good. I think I'd try it again over the metalizer though. (You know, on a not-so-important place!)

That was what I was thinking that too. Either the clear or putting over the metalcote. Either way I am gunshy now and I threw the brand new bottle away.
I've used Microscale's liquid mask with no issues before and several coats of colour, it's fine for small spots. I suspect the clear coats may have done it in though.
The only other liquid mask I have used is the Humbrol stuff and that worked like a champ. I just wanted to try out something new...did... and now I know better.
I tried it with Microscale liquid mask too. Didn't work and I had to repaint a spinner I had applied it to.
I am finishing up a Fujimi 1/72 F-14 for my dad, and I decided to be lazy and not use tape to mask the exhaust with tape before spraying the rest of the airframe like I usually do. Of note is that I had already sprayed the exhaust with Humbrol Metal Cote and buffed it to the appropriate level of “doneness” that I liked. Anyway, I digress…instead of using tape I decided that I would use the Vallejo liquid masking. This is the first time I have built a model for anyone other than for my own amusement. Sorry digressing again…so I slather this stuff all over the exhaust area and do my painting of the air frame to include two clear coats to seal everything up nice. Then the fun begins, I try to take the mask off by peeling like the bottle says, no go. So I try to rub it off like the bottle says, no go. So I try rubbing with water, no go, then alcohol, then nail polish remover, and finally I break out the mineral spirits. That seems to do the trick but I think it only worked because it took of the metalcote the stuff was stuck to. Bottom line is I did not save any time by taking that short cut, and not the whole rear area has a black sheen from the dissolved metalcote. Oh well I guess the two lessons for me was don’t try new things on something that needs to be “right” and second be patient. Anyone else used this stuff and had such issues?
