Oil wash over enamels???? HELP!!!
Posted by NJJK on Thursday, October 28, 2010 10:40 AM

I'm building an aircraft model that I airbrushed with Model Master light ghost gray enamel. What should I seal it with before doing an oil wash? Also what's the safest product to use to thin the oils?

Try using Future, being an acrylic it should be fairly immune to the oil after it has cured. I use odorless thinners to thin oils when I use them. I think it's called Turpinoid or something like that.

I'm just getting into the whole oil wash thing, but I've been thinning with Mona Lisa Odorless Thinner. I've tested it over bare enamel (White Ensign Coloucoats) both on a scrap plane and on some landing gear doors. Zero issues.
