Hose connections...
Posted by somenewguy on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 4:31 AM

I am thinking of buying a badger renegade velocity and need to know whether my paasche airhose will fit to it or if I need to buy a badger air hose. Also, are the connections to compressors on air hoses universal, or will I need to suss out whether or not a badger airhose will fit to my compressor?

Any help greatly appreciated.

With any luck the hose connections are NPT or National Pipe Thread. Most likely in 1/4" size. This is a standard tapered pitch, threads / inch for pressurized pipe fittings. The rule is turn three rotations by hand, three with a wrench leaving two threads exposed. They do need lubricant / sealant as no thread is cut perfectly. I advise Teflon tape, tear in half and wrap two - three times counter clockwise (opposite to the direction being tightened) leaving two threads exposed at the end of the male fitting to avoid internal contamination from tape bits.

No, your Paasche hose will not fit a Badger brush - you will need a new air hose or a Paasche to Badger adaptor.

Generally speaking, there are three "main" types of airbrush/hose connections - Badger, Paasche and Iwata all use different connectors and none of them are cross-compatible.

The Iwata thread is sort of like an industrial standard which fits Iwata, Grex, Harder & Steenbeck, Tamiya, Sparmax etc. etc. If you buy a cheapie generic airhose from, say, Harbor Freight, it fits the Iwata.

The Paasche and Badger airhoses are proprietary that fits nothing else but their own brand. But they sell adaptor for use with other hoses.

On the compressor end, it is most likely to be 1/4" NPT (American made) or 1/4" BSP (European or Asian made). They are slightly different, but close enough that it can be interchangable without causing leak.

Hi Somenewguy in Australia, with all due respect to the other forum members who've replied about pipe thread sizes like BSP, NPS/NPT and the meteric DN (diamètre nominal); the problem here is simply what does it take to unite a Paasche air hose to a Badger airbrush, what you need is a Paashe hose to Badger adaptor fitting: The Badger part number is #50-091 and the Paasche part number is #A-151 This is an image of the item:

This URL to the Paashe catogue page should clearup the T/C & B business - just scroll down to the bottom left, middle item "A-151 Adaptor". The cost for this part is between 3 to 5 dollars US. http://www.paascheairbrush.com/acc_hoses.html
Hope this helps, Danny aka Hogilla
