Iwata Eclipse HP-CS Air Brush
Posted by gpal on Saturday, November 13, 2010 4:33 PM

Hello,

I just got an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS Air Brush sometime ago and see that Iwata makes a super lube for their brushes. Is it necessary to use this lube? Do any of you guys use it?

Thanks in advance.

Personal opinion only:- If you brush is taken care of & cleaned properly, there should be no requirement for any sort of lubricant.

If you do feel the need to lubricate your brush, I belive glycerine is very effective.

And I don't think my airbrush is fully cleaned, until I apply the lube! Wink

I use the Medea Super Lube, but it's just blue colored glycerin.

So long folks!

I use Super Lube and gotta tell ya, I don't like it. It don't lube for long and after a couple of days my trigger (valve) sticks. I pull it apart, clean, lube, try again and it works smooth as butter. But only for a couple of days then the valve gets sticky again. May sound gross but before I bought the Super Lube I used forehead oil on my needle and that was it. Valve never got sticky, needle worked just like the SL.

I bought some store brand airbrush lube when I bought my first airbrush.  And, like Bill said, I think it's just glycerin with blue food coloring.  I lubed everything with it.  After a while, like Hkshooter said, it got sticky.  So I cleaned it out and put a tiny bit of sewing machine oil on all the points where metal rubs against metal.  I still occasionally rub a little of the lube on the needle, but usually I don't bother.  The only thing the needle rubs against is the Teflon needle bearing, and Teflon is pretty much self lubricating.  But, it's a little added insurance against a needle sticking and couldn't hurt.

The Iwata trigger has a pin that runs through a rubber O-ring, and that can bind if it's not lubed.  I think most Iwata owners use a little airbrush lube here.
