How do i apply a wash???
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 15, 2004 4:09 PM
Hi all,it's me,the guy from England.....I've been trying to apply a wash over parts of the cockpit on my "Belle" to try and make it look a bit weathered and used but it just seems to make the paint bubble up somewhat....I'm using Humbrol matt finish enamels,am i doing something wrong??Also what's the best, simplest way of weathering the fuselage, wings etc.Can i use watercolours, pastels, even women's make up perhaps.all tips will be much appreciated as i'm a complete novice at "makin' planes look worn"

not to hurt your feelings man, but this forum is already full of good info on how to do the exact things you mentioned above. go to the "search forum" link and type in the key words like "weathering" or whatever and it will pull all the posts with the word weathering in them and you can scan them for information. as far as a wash, you probably applied the wash to soon. if your painting with oil based paint, and doing a wash with an oil base paint, you usually have to seal the underlying enamel after it cures to protect it from the harshness of a mineral spirit bath. hope this helps.
