Opinions on Tamiya Super Fine HG Airbrushes
Posted by jpmelchor on Friday, January 16, 2004 3:21 AM
Hi Everyone!

I'm looking to buy a new airbrush. Ive been using a Paasche H and Badger 150 for many years. I model primarily aircraft and use mostly acrylics (Tamiya &Gunze) and gunze sangyo laquers. On rare times I use enamels.

I've heard the Tamiya brushes can do fine lines up to .18mm. Has anyone had any experience with this brush?

I have also read many of the threads on the diff airbrushes and am very confused. Does anyone know of a website that works like an un-biased consumer report on airbrushes?

I am also open to other brands if anyone would like to give their recommendations. Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I have used the Tamiya airbrushes and they are good ones, objective reviews for airbrushes i think don't exist. Big Smile [:D] BTW, they are repackaged(new name engraved) and you can find them under a few different brand names.

Get an airbrush rather based on your needs, spares availability and ease of fixing it yourself (hate it when the airbrush is gone for repairs for a few weeks). Wink [;)]

In the long run most airbrushes will produce similar results in skilled hands.

I would agree. Most airbrushes are of good quality and it boils down to personal preference.

The Tamiya airbrushes are manufactured in Iwata's Fujiosaki plant I believe as are many other brands.

I prefer a brand that is easier to find parts for and is more mainstream, but to each his own. Wink [;)]

I can't comment on the Super Fine, but I've been using the Tamiya HG Trigger for the last five years, and I love it. It's not touted as being able to create the thinnest lines, but it has done everything I've asked of it so far, flawlessly. Not a peep of trouble!

So, the Tamiya ABs are actually made by Iwata?

Then, kudos to Iwata! I've always heard they were fine ABs, too.

I haven't use the Super Fine HG yet. I have the HG only and it has served me well. It has been said the the Super Fine HG is even better. All I can say about Tamiya AB's (I have 2) are they are durable, easy to maintain and they deliver.

Not exactly.
The "Factory" in Japan is an independent entity that builds airbrushes and sprayguns for Iwata, Olympos, Richpen, Peak, and many others.

"The Factory" sounds like some kind of spy operation. Have you checked your brushes for tiny cameras or listening devices?

I can almost hear George Smiley talking about "the factory" working against him.

yeah. its gonna be 1984 all over again

only with the factory

its gonna go like this

winston smith hates "the factory" because he likes t&c airbrushes. "the factory" is against him and then they torture him and make him work in "the factory" and give up t&c airbrushes forever.
