On some 1/72 scale aircraft I have used q-tips to apply a mottled pattern. Dab it in some paint, get most of it off on a sheet of paper etc. then start applying to the model.  Kind of like dry-brushing.

(q-tips to paint, sounds kind of Hammer-ish!)

German 3 Color Camouflage

Has anybody developed an effective way to create the german 3 color camo WITOUT use of an airbrush? i read the article in fine scale about creating the german 3 color camo, and masking and brush painting the wings worked great, but i find alot of the detail on the fuselage sides impossible to create with a spray can and brush painting and masking leaves the details too sharp, they dont wind up blended like the camo should be........any tips?
