Oil Dot Filter Color Choices

Okie dokie,

I've understand the basics of dot filtering, etc, but I was wondering how I would go about choosing colors on monotone paint schemes.  I know that you want to lighten or darken, and most I've seen involve filtering over a two or three color camo scheme like the German "ambush" type schemes, where you'd want to put dots of the opposing color in the camo to bring it together.

But how would you do this with a single color, say the Panzer Grey pre-1943 or the OD or khaki drab monotone of most of the Allied WWII vehicles?

Thanks in advance folks!
