Don, excellent writeup on the Aztek. Your whole website on airbrushes is fanatistic in general, I've been there multiple times to read up on your  reviews. The best thing is how you take the thing apart, see how it works, spray with it, and then make a informed opinion.  Just wanted to thank you for all the information.

In regards to the Aztek, I learned airbrushing on the 470 and now also use the Tamiya HG superfine.  They are both good and I still use both - for different purposes.  I use the Aztek for broader coverage and to shoot Future, which I can clean up with Windex and not worry about the Amonia etching brass parts in my Tamiya.  I'm very glad to see how you taken apart the Aztek and explained how you can vary the air pressure via the trigger. While it gives a 'mushier' feel, I actually learned how to use it to paint. Wish you had this writeup a few months back when there was long thread with different people debating whether you can control an AB's pressure via the trigger.  Many people didn't believe that you can do it on the Aztek as airbrushes just arne't built that way.

Well, like i said, great article and great site. Thanks very much.

Don, another well down review of a controversial airbrush. I like how you threw caution to the wind and cracked that puppy open for the camera!

I hadn't visited in a while, and was pleased to see the article about Ken Schlotfeldt. I've never had the pleasure, but have exchanged very pleasant emails with him, and it was good to be able to put a face to the name.

So long folks!

Thank you for the feedback.  I really appreciate it.  I've been curious about the Aztek for a long time.  And, when I saw an opportunity to get one cheap, I couldn't turn it down.  I may never use it again, but I had $25 worth of fun doing the review.  I hope it will be useful.  I'm not saying whether the Aztek is good or bad, just that it's different.

Glad you got to tear one apart Don. Never taken mine apart or seen inside one before but a lot of that is how I pictured it.

Interesting enough.  I also learned to airbrush on the Aztek.

And now when I'm on the Velocity or Sotar,  I still do control air with the trigger even though I'm trying to break that habit.

Excellent review and writeup; a most useful resource to those of us that still cling to our Aztecs, albeit for rough work and general coverage Smile

Stop doing that mister! The airbrush was not designed to work that way. Stick out tongue Wink
