Which Dayton blower to pick for spray booth

Where's Gip? He can answer this better than most as this is his area of expertise.

HI STJohnson, you actually have answered everything i need to know. i will probably go for something with 1 speed maybe smaller cfm, as i need to go to the local grainger dealer to see what they say. but from your advice, i think i will go no less than 300cfm...500 may be a little too pricy. about the air inlet adaptor, you actually answered it also, i am talking about the piece goes between the fan part where the air sucks in and the booth itself, the adaptors is around $10. to my understanding the motors has 2 wires and you have to ground it by attaching the ground wire to the fan housing. i am planning to build a back or up draft as it is going to sit on a table so down draft is not possible. actually picures will be wonderful.

I was able to build my booth with wood ,motor, paint, electrical parts etc. that I had laying around my shop.

I wanted to buy the Pace booth (its very nice) but I had all this stuff and not the $$$$

The only thing I purchased was (2) LED light bars from Lowes. The motor and switch are available from Amazon .. The switch is available from the same source. If memory serves the motor and switch were $200 and not wired together.

I'm not sure what you mean by air inlet adapters. However the motor has a shroud that houses the squirell cage and this assembly is mounted to a shopmade ring and bolted to the underside of the box....Maybe I shoud take a couple of photos iif you like.

..It is not very loud in my opinion, but I would say your comparison to a cook top hood is close.

I think it's kind of subjective but I think the air drawn thru the booth  is just right. It never stirs up dust as my two stage filters seems to work well.

Please understand I am NOT an expert. You want to understand all phases of construction and risks!

I can tell you my booth was allot of work and if I had the $$$ I would have bought one. However now that its done I would not trade it for any other !

Hi ST Johnson, thanks for the info, thats exactly what i need, but i need to ask you something more if you dont mind. when did you buy yours? how much? is it already wired? if not how do you controll it 2 speeds? did you buy the collars (air inlet adaptors) at the same place? is it loud compare to cooker hood? are you worry about stirring up the dust for such a strong air draft? well actually i am not sure about how strong 500cfm is, since i am worry about too strong draft will introduce alot of dust since the Pace deluxe has only 245cfm and they claim its adequate. My hosing will be no longer than 8 feet with 2x 90degree angle the most.

I don't know if this helps but..........

I built my own booth about a year ago and I used a Dayton 1TDT7 which is a two speed motor. I like a two speed, but its not at all necessary.  My booth is 32" wide 18" deep and 18" high and I use two filters(downdraft) to catch the paint. The motor is rated at 542 cfm at  0"  of static pressure on high speed.

I vent thru about 2 feet of 6" dia. pipe with only (2) 45* bends in the run.

 In use, I find its just about right it,  and works quite well. I use low speed for painting and high speed when cleaning my A/B's out with lacquer or when using a small spray can.

The diameter, length, and bends in your exhaust will have quite an effect on how efficient your booth will work

I tried the smaller motor and I did not think it worked as well.
