I'd like to know what kind of compressors most people use to airbrush.  I used to make models in the past, and had purchased a Testor's airbrush kit with the canned propellant, but never used the kit.   Recently I've started to make models again and tried to use the airbrush. I leaked so much air from the fitting to the can, that I was not able to paint much.  If I'm going to use the airbrush, I'm going to have to get a compressor.  Question is what kind?

The more popular options around here (1) airbrush compressor, (2) tools compressor and (3) CO2 bottle.

The airbrush compressor makes the most sense in most situation. It is quiet enough to use indoor next to the work bench. It starts at about $100, but the sky is the upper limit. If you have a Hobby Lobby store nearby, go take a look at the compressors they stock. Make sure to use the 40% off coupon. The dual piston one is my favorite. Also, stay away from the Testor Blue Mini.

I am thinking about getting a compressor with a tank for use in my garage and recently saw a Porter Cable (oil-less) one at home depot that went up to 150 psi, at a good price.  Can I adapt this to use with an airbrush?

In most house, it may not be that easy to route the hose from the garage to your modeling workbench. If you are not single, you need a very understanding spourse too. Yes, you can use it for airbrush. Buy a good quality diaphragm type regulator/filter at the airbrush end of your long airhose.

Hi Chuck,

I use my Porta-Cable from Home Depot witha Badger air   bush. Have used it for at least 6 years. The only problem I've ever had is forgetting to reduce the pressure after I'ved used the compressor for something else. I do have a moisture trap etc. on the airline I attach to the airbrush.

Good Luck

Any source of air that can deliver a constant regulate flow of at a set pressure can be used with an airbrush. A car's inflated tire can be used as a source of air.

Just want to make sure they are compatable.

Thanks so much!!!

Greg

You can do a search on "Aztek" and "Mini Blue compressor" at this forum to find out more about people's opinion on Testors/Aztek airbrush equipments.

Can they be used together? Yes.

Are they good choice for the money? Yes only if you do not have to pay for them.
