I don't think the Health and Safety boys and girls like Windex very much. Has that nasty Ammonia in it, and can't have that!

You may not find any at all in the UK, nor any substitutes. See if you can find some laundry ammonia. Windex is nothing more than water (~70%), Isopropyl alcohol (~25%) and Ammonia (~3%), and the rest is food colouring.

So long folks!

There are other window cleaners with ammonia. Windex is but one brand.

Yes, Gerald, most definitely so. The jug I have on hand isn't Windex, but ZEP, but we're talking the UK, and window cleaners with "harsh" chemicals such as Ammonia are scarce.

Windowlene (available in UK) is similar to Windex, isopropyI alcohol works well & Methylated Spirits (the pink stuff from your hardware store) work VERY well - but needs to be used with adequate ventilation!

I hardly believe that ammonia which is a household cleaning chemical as well as an industrial refrigerant is especially hard to find anywhere.

I didn't say it was hard to find, only that it was hard to find a window cleaner sold "over the counter" that still contains ammonia. The nanny state is well entrenched in the UK, as many of my ex-pat Brit friends have explained to me.

So long folks!
