Copper and Brass Paint / Part Refinish
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 4:41 PM

I'm sorting through upcoming 2011 projects.

All have enough seams on plated parts to make me strongly consider kit plating removal and a spray paint re-finish of the parts.

The obvious question is: "Why not send the parts for re-plating after mold seam removal? "

Unfortunately, re-plating would appear impractical due to the need to remove parts from the tree for proper cleanup.

I've sifted through the FSM forum archives on the topic and noted posts mentioning :

Citadel / Games Workshop metallic paints  ( comment that  their gold looks similar to brass ) as well as Testors MM Brass paint .

However, the posts were several years old and I'm curious if anyone has noted any Brass finish / Copper finish paints that are an improvement over the brands I've mentioned?

Thanks for your help !

Citidel is pretty consistent. Have a look at their gold and copper.

Burnished Gold

Dwarf Bronze

Tin Bitz

Shining Gold

Theyre great for brush painted. Usually work best with a black base coat. The metal flake in them is almost non existent, just enough to make them look like metal.

Yeah, citadel/games workshop paints are fantastic. In fact almost everything they do is fantastic, its also fantastically over priced lol.

As for spraying it, im not 100% sure on how it works (someone else here might know more) but what i do know is their spray gun that you can buy (moulded to look like an incinerator) is only really good for a bit of spray and pray work. no good for detail.
