Paasche Talon opinions
Posted by montague on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 11:44 PM

Hi!

I just picked up a Paasche Talon gravity feed set with the multiple size needle and nozzle set and have only tested it a little today buy I am pretty impressed so far with it's performance. I am replacing my Iwata eclipse hp-bcs with it and so far it seems to be out performing the Iwata. Please let me know what you think of this airbrush if you have one or used one.

Thanks!

I bought my Talon last May and have used it on several projects (not models) with good results. It was purchased based on my experience with their VL airbrush, which has been a real workhorse for me for some years. I'm currently using the Talon on a couple kits, messing with different air pressure settings and thinning ratios.

All in all, I think you'll like it. Whether or not it's better than other brands is a subject that's debated here often, and that's a matter of personal preference. For me the Talon makes sense because I use the tool for other purposes, and need the ability to switch tip sizes (I really like the small spray head that came with my set).

Enjoy!

I'd like to hear back after you've used it a while. I came very close to buying one but didn't, went with something different. The only negative I remember hearing about it is that's it's a little heavy. But the cup is larger so that's probably where the weight comes from. The all in one package does seem to be a pretty good deal. They also use slightly different nozzle sizes like .35mm instead of .30mm and so on.

So many airbrushes, so little time. (and money) Smile

Tony

Sorry, it's .25, .38 and .66 on the nozzles...

Hi Montague,

Please keep us updated as to your thoughts on the brush.

I was thinking of getting one too, but want to hear what people think before i buy one.

I've got a Paasche H - I presume the Talon uses all the same size hose connection, can you confirm at all?

Regards,

Chris.

Hi!

Yes, the hose for a Paasche H is the same size as a talon. I painted some aromr tonight and it went better than I can have hoped! I can dial down to 10 psi and get inceribly close! A little issue with tip dry but I can add flow enhancer to my acrylic thinner. Still a great brush! Thank you for the replies! Keep them coming in!

I've had the VL for a long while and just bought the Talon about a month ago. This is my first gravity fed brush and I'm happy with it so far.

Since it's so easy to clean, I find myself using it much more than the VL. I think it's easier to control and being able to spray at very low pressure has been a big plus for me. I've been having a little trouble shotting heavier paints but with thin mediums, it works really well.

Is having a large cup bad other than added weight?

The added weight is not a big factor, but the balance of the airbrush when holding it in your hand is. You want one that feels well balanced when airbrushing.

Compared to other gravity feed airbrush, the Talon is said to be head heavy. It is a very personal decision whether it fits your sense of balance or not. Try it before you buy.

no draw backs from having it. it's just over kill for modeling imo.

How is it "overkill" for modeling?

I have used it now for several weeks and it has done a better job for me that my Iwata. It is more precise, works at alower pressure (15-20) no problem, cleans up great and having the larger cup does not affect balance and has allowed me to have plenty of paint to complete an entire kit and facilitates cleaning. Thank you all for your replies. Please keep them coming,

To be honest, my 1 year old Talon is for the most part in the box while the Aztek is having all the fun and doing almost everything. The Talon is a nice fine instrument and works as promised, but it is heavy on the front and I don't feel the overall balance and ergonomics I'm used to with my Azteks. I don't regret my purchase at all, but at the same time if someone stops by and ask me if I would sell it like those old TV commercials, I would.
