Alternative to Mr.Color
Posted by Alex Shaw on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 6:50 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm building a 1/32 BF109 and the instructions call out for MC214 and MC218. Unfortunately, the only place that I'm aware of that stocks them is out of stock. Does anyone know of a good alternative?

Mr Color 214 is "Dark Iron" and 216 is "Bronze"

They're pretty generic colours and it shouldn't be too difficult to find matches or equivalents to those colours in any other Manufacturer's paint range.  Big Smile

MC218 is aluminum, which shouldn't be hard to find an alternative to. But what could I replace "218 Dark Iron" with?

From what i see on the net, Dark Iron looks similar to Gunze Sangyo's H76 "Burnt Iron" - you could give that a try.

I know Humbrol (enamel) and Tamiya (enamel and acrylic) make colours pretty much identical (to my eye) to that of Burnt Iron - sorry, can't remember numbers though.

Anyhow, those three brands are all worth a look too.
