paint schemes - how do I find them??
Posted by garylee on Saturday, July 2, 2011 11:31 AM

I posted this question in the aircraft forum but thought I might have some luck here as well. I'm trying to find a paint scheme for a particular aircraft (the FW 190A-6 of Emil Lang in 1943, "Black 7") and I'm not having much luck. I found one side view in Aircraft of the Aces but it doesn't give a top view or call out RLM colors. Does anyone know of a good place to find particular schemes that list RLM colors without having to pore through tons upon tons of reference books, just hoping to find what you're looking for?

Use Google images. Type in FW-190a-6 and see what comes up. You may not get the specific plane, but you'll get a good idea of what colors you need. Good luck

I have many books and my Lair smells of rich mahogany!!! Stay thirsty my fellow MOJOs!

Hey, Navigator. What an awesome tip!! I went to google images and typed in FW 190A-6 and I got 433,000 images. That seemed like a lot, so I refined the search to only show images related to Emil Lang and when it popped up the very FIRST image was the exact freakin' plane I was looking for!! You've definitely done your good deed for the day and the Gods of Karma are smiling down on you. Thanks again.

In this section of the forums there is a forum specifically for research materials.  Try asking there- opening a new forum for the question.  Be sure to scour the aviation section of your local library.
