Good spray booth recommendations?
Posted by Don KC on Thursday, July 14, 2011 6:22 PM

Wife told me to go get a spray booth after my last session resulted in an olive drab hard wood floor.

I use almost only acrylics and don't have a way to do an exterior vent so I'd like one that has filtering capability without an exterior vent.  I'd like to spend less than $250.

Any suggestions or recommendations?  Any place sell them cheaper than others?

I got good results with ModelExpo’s Compact Spraybooth, Exhaust Hose, Filter Combo #HSE420PRO

BUT there’s an even better deal for just $209.99, the “Super Saver Combo” version:

  1. HS08AC-SK - Mini-Compressor & Double Action Airbrush Set
  2. HSE420 - Compact Spray Booth
  3. HSE420H - Exhaust System

Use offer code W383.

Thanks, Tom but what's the website?

Also is this going to work okay for using acrylics without connecting it to an outside exhaust portal?

You’re pulling my leg, aren’t you?

http://www.modelexpo-online.com/

or just Google “modelexpo”.

The idea is to connect the spray booth (which folds exceptionally nicely for storage, BTW) to the exhaust hose and route it through an opened window (just a crack) via the flattened nozzle.

Artograph 1520 Compact Spray Booth may work for you and it is well within your price range. The difference between Artograph and other is the fact that Artograph designed theirs with carbon filter so that it can be used without external connection. But the consumable could be expensive over the long run.

(I do not have one and cannot comment on its filter effectiveness.)

I HAVE A SIMILAR  SPRAY BOOTH THAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE U.K.

THE  MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT THE FOLDING DOORS ARE MADE WITH POLYSTYRENE ( ITHINK )  WHICH CRAZED ON USING WHITE SPIRIT SOLVENT ,  I USE HUMBROL ENAMELS.   MY SOLUTION WAS TO LINE THE INSIDE COMPLETELY WITH THE POLYPROPYLENE  CUTTING BOARDS AVAILABLE IN SUPERMARKETS VERY CHEAPLY .  IT IS NOW NO PROBLEM TO USE ANY SOLVENT  ,( INCLUDING ACETONE  WHICH ATTACKS MOST PLASTICS )  AND I SPRAY THE SURFACES WITH A FINE WATER MIST JUST BEFORE SPRAYING TO CUT DOWN ANY DUST PROBLEMS. WORKS GREAT.  ALSO THE OFF CUTS ARE VERY USEFUL FOR MIXING EPOXY RESINS ,FILLERS ,ANYTHING REALLY!

THEY MAKE GREAT SPREADERS FOR FILLERS TOO ,JUST CUT TO SHAPE. LOTS OF OTHER USES!!

Any idea where to get replacement filters? Or substitute?

I do not vent my spray booth in the winter.  Acrylics make almost no odor with a decent filter, and even enamels have the odor greatly reduced with a good filter.  I make my own booths, but whether homemade or purchased, a good filter goes a long ways on making spraying tolerable even without a vent.

I have the same booth your talking about here and with Acrylics the filters work well enough, enamels etc I always vent to outside, I only vent acrylics outside in the warm months. With enamels I will still wear a mask just to be safe, I generally think if you can smell it the first time you need to wear a mask

In over a year I haven't changed the filter, I got s spare when I baught mine anyway

The portable spray booth that many are talking about can be purchased for as little as $79.00 on the web. Just google it and you'll see prices for the identical booth(though often relabelled ones) from $80-200. Many now come with the 4 ft. hose to window attachment that sometimes sells for $25.00. Let your fingers do the walking.

I have a ModelExpo booth. I always wondered about the functionality of the filter. I mean, the booth exhausts the air infested with paint particles to the outside. Then, why is the filter needed?  To protect outdoor air?

I second the idea of furnace filters in homemade booths. I used to use auto air filters but the furnace filters work much better and are at least as cheap if not cheaper.
