Paasche H question
Posted by redraider56 on Thursday, July 14, 2011 9:18 PM

So I'm still relatively new to airbrushing despite modeling for awhile now.  I've been messing around some and trying to learn everything about this airbrush and I think I got most of it down.  My question is, for those of you who have a used a Paasche H single action, how fine a line can I get with the H1 tip, and further more how do I tune the tip assembly to get a fine line?  I'm wondering If I'll be able to preshade with it

Hi redraider56, you will definitely be able to pre-shade with it.

I used to use a Paashe H exclusively, and always preshaded 1/72 scale aircraft without any dramas.

In terms of "how fine" - i don't know, that will depend on your own experience.  I would assume my preshading for 1/72 was probably around 1mm - 1.5mm or so.

The key is to move the tip further up where it locks in (if that makes sense), so the butt of the tip is almost touching the area with the locking nut.  Thinner than normal paint and slightly lower airpressure, then get in nice and close.

I won't lie, it's a lot harder than if you were using a dual action gravity feed, but it can be done - just requires decent amounts of practice.

Good luck Yes

Chris.

Thanks Chris, that helps alot.  I work with 1/48 aircraft so it sounds like it should work.  Tomorrow is a painting (trial and error probly lol) day so hopefully all goes well!

Don Wheeler

There's a sample in my Paasche H review.

Actually, I forgot about Don's review.  I think that was probably where I learnt to use mine - so well worth reading.

PS: Don's example looks like it beats anything I'm capable of, and he's using a No. 3 needle and tip!

It's a good example of what can be achieved with practice though.

Chris.

But, I'm spraying ink on a paper towel.  It shows what the airbrush can do under ideal conditions, and it makes up for my lack of skill.  Paint on plastic is a lot trickier.
