Possible to use Enamel and Acrylic at the same time?

I use acrylics, enamels and lacquers on the same model all the time. Though I generally wait 48 hours to a week for the enamels to fully cure and at least 24 hours for acrylics and lacquers to cure before top coating with a different type of paint.

Just a couple weeks ago, I painted an FJ Fury with a white enamel coat and a gray acrylic coat on top.

It actually came in handy when I made a mistake in the acrylic top coat. I used a Q-tip dipped in Tamiya thinner to wipe off the mistake and it had no effect on the enamel. After that, I used a Q-tip dampened in the Tamiya thinner to blend the hard edges from masking.

You can paint over eachother with no problem. I don't even us a clear coat between them.

But if you us oils over enamal, you need a clear coat.

If you have trouble handpainting Tamiya paints, mix 1 part Future and 4 parts distilled water. Then dip your drush into this mixure before dipping it into the paint. This acts as a flow improver.

Also you can get a slow-drying blending acrylic medium and mix in with the paint to give you a lot longer drying time. This really helps with brushpainting since it won't dry on your brush so fast.

I've put Tamiya acrylics over Model Master enamel with no problem.  Haven't tried it the other way around.

I use everything and anything in all combinations.The only consistant problem I've ever had was hand brushing Tamiya paints over other brands.It just disintegrates on contact.I have't had that problem with Tamiya sprays,however.
