Second, third! Some of the design of the newer knock-offs from China look pretty good. They allow the user to build up skill faster, capable of more detail and are easier to clean when compared to the old external mix, single action design. Therefore, a better value for the money.
I have play a little with the Neo for Iwata. It is NOT an Iwata and is not parts exchangable with Iwata, but is one of the better designed clone and excellent value for $38 in the US. Very good atomization, good balance in hand and very smooth trigger.

I would recommend a double action airbrush, where you can separately control air flow and paint amount. Iwata makes some very good ones. Not much different in price from single action.

the iwata neo is nothing new. its not even made by them. chinese made with their name on it. nothing special for $70. you can get a badger patriot 105 for $62 http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/ and it will blow away the neo.
this isn't any help because he wants a single action.
