Need Tamiya primer
Posted by knoxb on Thursday, September 1, 2011 11:19 AM

Hello,

I want to aquire some Tamiay Fine White Primer, but it is not sold in California, or anywhere in US that I can find.

The overseas companies I have contacted will not ship to Cali/USA (Rainbow Ten, Hiroboy, others).

So, how can I get some?

private emails to: Knox_bowman@hotmail.com.

PS I don't really like the Gunzi Mr. Surfacer product...to thick..even from spray can decanted to airbrush.

www.spruebrothers.com does carry the Tmiya Fine White primer but they're sold out right now.  I haven't heard of the Tamiya stuff being released yet with the re-labling issue so Tamiya's stuff is getting harder to find.

I don't know how you can get any now, just wanted to let you know a retailer in the US does carry it, they're just sold out right now.

Peace through superior firepower.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply.  Most places still list Tamiya sprays (including the primer), but cannot restock at this time.

The story I got is that the US (EPA? California Air Quality Board???) told Tamiya that their product/formula

was not good. Tamiya said they would reformulate, but so far has not.  Then I heard Tamiya is not going to do anything, and we are SOL as far as getting Tamiya spray primer in the US.

I've got a friend traveling internationaly...maybe I'll ask him to buy some, and ship it to me.

I have been also told that at times both tamiya and Gunze0Sangyo will limit supplies to a certain region for unknown reasons.

We may never be able to buy any Tamiya paint products again, thanks to the boneheads in D.C.  Tamiya should just tell them to "bug off", as they have plenty of other customers all over the world.

Guess we'll have to learn to use Testor's products from now on.

I have a supply of Floquil I use to prime my armor models. I have had to start ordering tamiya bottles from England. The supply there is normal. They will not ship spray cans overseas so I had to change my primer. I sure miss Tamiya. Hannants in the UK has a great supply. I did just find out that Redfrog hobbies.com has just gotten a shipment of Tamiya spray primer and 250ml thinner in stock.  Good Luck.

I am sorry, but if Tamiya is claiming to be selling one product and actually selling another - I have no problem the Gov. stepping in, that's why I pay taxes; if they offer toxic paint, they should label it as such.

I personally await a set of Vallejo to show up at my door tomorrow and if they are as good as people say they are - Tamiya can bug off.

P.S. Model Master has a pretty good primer, although you have to spray it yourself :)

Actually Citadel from Games workshop makes a great Primers as well. Costs a little more than the Tamiya Primer but come in the bigger standard sized cans.

You bet, the government is really concerned about our well being.

Couldn't be they want us healthy so we can pay taxes.

Anyway, Tamiya primer is the best out there but talk about expensive....wow.

Hmm, I have actually found the entire Tamiya paint line to be the most value oriented...

Have you ever tried Floquil primer in their Railroad color line?
