Cleaning Paint bleed / overspray from clear parts
Posted by prush on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 12:08 PM

I had some paint bleed under my Tamyia masking tape on the front glass of my HH-53 build.

It is/was ENAMEL paint!

Here is ttempted to solve the problem.

I used Windex to remove any Future, or clear acrylic that may be "protecting" the bleed.

Then I used Mineral spirits and a Q tip to scrub the paint...with ZERO results. (This paint has been on the part for about 2 weeks...untill I removed the mask this morning)

Then, I had a moment of complete stupidity and used LACQUER THINNER.

SURE, it removed the paint!! And you guys know what it did to the windshield!

Then I spent 45 minutes sanding and polishing, and added about 3 couts of FUTURE, and it now looks presentable.

My question is,......how should I have approached this the 1st time????

Thanks

Phil

I would have either submerged it in Super Clean degreaser or sprayed it with Easy-Off oven cleaner (yellow can) and then scrub it with an old toothbrush and repeat if necessary.
