Yes, you are fine with Tamiya tape. Look at my P-47D above. Tamiya tape and Tamiya acrylics. The lines are almost perfect.
Can you cut narrower pieces and it still works, or does it only work on the factory edges?
Yes and I always cut a thin slice off the side with a sharp X-acto to make sure I get a clean line. Sometimes the edge is pretty sharp on the tape but I still cut it to be sure.

Nice work Marc!
I also use Tamiya tape and get pretty good results.

I have tried their Delicate surface tape and it works... and looks... just like Tamiya tape. Comes in big rolls and is expensive up front but in the long run, per inch, it is probably cheaper than the tamyia stuff.
The chemical only excludes water. It is for use only with acrylics and the like that are water-based. Even then, I have used a knock off (not the Frog tape itself) and was not impressed, though that may be because of the cheap nature of this knock-off. I am now sticking with Tamiya tape- it works well with either enamel or acrylics.

Anyone tried Frog tape yet? You know, the stuff they advertise on TV for masking walls. It apparently has a chemical in it that hardens when contacted by the wet paint.......
