TomZ2

Based on the shootout comparison in FSM in 2008 (and demand time for alternate explanation to qualified verifiable facts), I bought a BearAir Model 1000.
I’ve had no complaints.

While the FSM article is somewhat dated (3 years old), the conclusion and reasoning is still sound and some of the models are still around.

Among those compressors tested, the Paasche DA400R achieved the steady flow at the highest pressure which meant very good. Paasche has switched manufacturer of that DA400R compressor to China. You can expected the same quality and performance that FSM tested from the Sparmax TC-2000 which is a twin of the original DA400R with some additional features.

If someone wants a cheap option, watch the Northern Tools website for good deal. They had this compressor with tank for $40 earlier this year. It was very quiet. Unlike airbrushes, the compressor does wear out. I would invest in a good quality one from Taiwan where a single factory produces the like of Iwata, Revell and Sparmax.

Excellent - thanks Tom! I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Compressor Recommendations?

Well, I've officially gone and done it. I've put my big 20-gallon compressor up for sale. It's been great, but I'm not running impact wrenches or die grinders off it anymore, it's total overkill for airbrush use, and it takes up ridiculous amounts of floor space. Oh, and it's loud enough to wake the dead.

So...I'm looking for something a bit more suited to my uses.

Obviously...airbrushing. And also the occasional duty as a kids' toy-inflater and car tire filler-upper. I'm thinking that puts me in line for something with a small tank.

Any recommendations? Right now I'm kind of tentatively eyeing the BearAir 2100 and the TC-20T.
