Many thanks for the comments. I kind of thought that whether the paint was flat or gloss wouldn't make a difference as far as the finished product is concerned. I realize that the surface has to be glossy for decaling, then a clear flat can be applied to get the matte finish.

...no...
RESlusher I couldn't see how it would. You'll actually want a glossy coat on the model before putting on the decals. That can come from either a gloss paint or a top coat of Future.

Flat colors do have the advantage of drying faster than gloss but it doesn't matter which you use.

It seems many of the paint mfgs only make paints in the final sheen, as far as color. If a certain color or shade is supposed to be matt, the mfgs seem to think they must make it that way. So, before you decal, you need to gloss it with something, then flat it afterwards. I'd be happy if it were all gloss, but I think many modelers, and for sure the mfgs, would take issue with that.

If a model is to have a matte finish when it is completed does it really matter whether a flat or gloss paint is used for the main color? I suppose the same question would apply if the finished model were to be glossy.
Would appreciate any comments on this question.
Thanks, Morto
