Question on acrylic paint freezing
Posted by Echo139er on Monday, November 28, 2011 12:43 PM

I am new to acrylic paint. I have always used enamel until recently.  Now that the temps are getting pretty cold, I got to thinking...  Freezing temps!!

Does acrylic paint get ruined if it freezes?  Once thawed will it work like normal?

I keep some of my paints stored in the garage and this can be an issue come winter.  I have never had any problems with enamels stored in the cold.

Anyone know?

It will vary from brand to brand & colour to colour, some may resist being frozen a few times, but it really isn't a good idea.

Enamels are different as they are a solution, acrylics are an emulsion which will deteriorate or brake down when frozen.
