Stripping Vallejo
Posted by Brian D. on Thursday, December 8, 2011 3:26 PM

Has anyone out there been able to succesfully strip Vallejo acrylic paint from their models?  If so, what did you use?

Thanks,

Brian

Uh...Micro-set once.

Windex'll do a number on it, though.

I dont know about Vallejo.....but I recently had to strip paint of the Ki-43 I'm working on.....tried to paint the white fields for the hinos......first sprayed them with MM Acryls....didnt come out too good so I started to strip with different thinners....and nothing....until I tried Mr Hobby-Mr color Thinner 110....WOW .....worked like a charm....took the MMacryl off AND the Tamiya primer underneath and left a nice clean plastic surface...I tried again to paint the white with Testor rattle can,,,,looked like crapola....it stripped that stuff off too....no damage to the details on the plastic either.....give it a shot....

good luck

Carlos,

Isn't Mr Hobby Color thinner a bit expensive to use for stripping paint?  Kind of looking for something a bit cheaper.

Denatured alcohol should rip right through it without any trouble.

Super Clean degreaser. It is the best non-toxic paint stripper out there IMHO.

Thanks,

Brian,

I've not noticed any detrimental effects using denatured alcohol. I've soaked parts for hours with no ill effects. (both clear and opaque parts) Smile

Usually, you don't need to soak - you can simply wipe the paint away using a rag or paper towel moistened with alcohol. This works with Tamiya acrylic, Gunze Aqueous acrylic and Vallejo.
