Can Alclad II NMF colors be mixed? I have several colors, but of course I happen to be looking for something in-between. I've read some of the threads about Alclad II, but I'm not sure I've read about colors being mixed. I'd rather not experiment until I know that it's at least possible (the stuff's expensive). Thanks,
Tom
Mixing the regular colors should not be a problem. I don't know If I would mix the chrome or polished aluminum.

Wing Nut,
Why would the chrome or pollshed aluminum be any different than the other colors? Thanks,
I'm not quite sure the utility of mixing together the "gray shade" metal finishes - say Aluminum and Duraluminum, as they're already really close together.
BUT...you certainly can mix and match. 50/50 Steel and Exhaust Manifold is my preferred for aircraft exhausts:

A selection of Alclad's line is comprised of "high shine" metallics. These are the ones that "require" a gloss black base. The reason is that they're semi-translucent. You can use other colors beneath for different effects, but the backing color matters. I'd imagine you can mix high shines together just fine, but mixing a high shine with a regular shade (say, Chrome with Duraluminum), the regular would probably obscure any effect.

DoogsA,
That is really useful information, and your illustrations are great. I have several old Pyro antique pistol models, and have been experimenting with different metalizers for the barrels and other metal parts. I tried using dark aluminum, lightly polished with S&J aluminum powder, followed by a buff--- and it turned out really well. I don't believe the Alclad II are supposed to be "buffable" metalizers like the model master line, but it worked nonetheless. I'm looking to mix the dark aluminum and the magnesium for an intermediate shade, which should be fine, but I hear you about mixing the high shine colors and the darker shades. Thanks again for the information.
