hi first time user and trying to get into the modeling but live in the north that has a very limited supplied hobby shop. i want to place a large order of quality paint and is hoping to hear some feedback recommendations from the forum. I have iwata brushes and compressor and target1/48 1/32 scale planes and 35 armour thanks
The north of where? Without knowing that and what paint lines you have access to its hard to make a specific recommndation. But offhand for widest color selection and general availbility, along with less fuss for airbrushing, I would suggest Model Master Enamels. For handbrushing Humbrols are the best in my expereince
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

sorry north meaning northern b.c. The hobby shop only has a limited supply of tamiya and three colors of vallejo paints and maybe a dozen plastic models. Model building isnt popular here unfortunately so need to order else where that is why iam asking the forum
Ok, by BC I will presume you mean British Columbia and not Baja California. If Baja, I know San Diego area has some good hobby shops that are not too far of a drive. Well, in any case I stand by those recommendations for those reasons. I know some folks here are sold on Vallejos and acrylics for various reasons, but I prefer enamels for the most part.
Like Stik, I'm hooked on Testors and Model Master enamels. It's all I've ever used....why experiment when it works!!!
Like Stik, i am a big fan on Enamels. I haven't used MM, not sure you can get them over here. The brand i use is Xtracolour, which is made by Hannants so will be hard for you to get hold of. As stik say, alot of folks prefer Acrylics for various reasons.
Most brands seem to have ranges which either have specific paints for certain subjects, or a damn good match. My sujestion would be to try and few, of each type of paint, and find one you like. Once you do, stick with it.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

North and Baja cannot be used in the same sentence unless you are on a ship.

thanks guys i will try the model masters if i dont like them its paint to have in the stash
modelmaker, my personal preference is a brand called White Ensign Colourcoats. They are made in England, but available from several vendors on this side of the pond. I don't know about Canada, but in the U.S. you might try Warship Hobbies and MidTenn Hobbies. You can Google each for their web sites. WEM's paints are spot on for military colors, both WW2 and modern. My second choice would be Model Master's.

This is the 21st Century my friend... and you being located more midway between the two than I am... Personally I am more connected to Baja (haveing no connection to Canada..)
If there are few hobby shops around, what about craft stores? Here in the states chains like Michaels and JoAnns carry Testors enamels. They carry the square bottles, not the model master stuff, so you are more limited than MM colors, but the enamels thin and brush the same. Still better than anything you'll find at a hardware or paint store.
