Removing testors enamel
Posted by gpal on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 7:03 PM

Hello,

I have found some old extra parts I would to use but some have been painted with Testors enamel. What is the safest way to remove the enamel from the plastic parts with out ruining them?

I use Castrol Super Clean degreaser. Purple Power is close to the same thing.  You can get either at WalMart or an auto parts store. Won't harm the plastic. Just put enough in a container to cover your parts and let them soak. Some colors are harder/will take longer to remove than others. There are other degreasers that are similar but Super Clean is the one I prefer. You can reuse it and it will last a long time.

Or, you can get something called Easy Lift Off (ELO) that is marketed by Testors now at the hobby shop. Just brush it on the parts and let it set. May have to reapply a time or two.

I use Castrol Super Clean degreaser.

Ditto They changed the name to just "Super Clean" but it's the same product.

My favorite paint stripper followed by Easy-Off over cleaner.
