I have a Patriot 105 which I love.  I don't have a fancy compressor.  I have a Lowe's-bought Kobalt 1.5 gallon compressor that I use for a variety of air tools in addition to my airbrush.  You need to add a regulator and I added a filter.  It works like a champ.

After extensive research, I've decided to buy a Badger 105 as my first airbrush.

Now, I have to decide on a compressor. I've looked at the Iwata Silver Jet. It looks very nice and has a built-in airbrush holder. But I've read somewhere that its filter works only with Iwata airbrushes (is this important?).

No Badger compressor grabs my interest. FYI, I'll paint only 1/35 AFVs.

Blick Art Supplies has an Iwata Compressor introduction video that may help you see where the Silverjet fits in their product line.

Thanks for the reply. I guessed the filter's placement would not be optimal.

Just bought a Silver Jet to go with my Badger 200 and 150.  There is an adapter included with the filter for using it with the Badger brushes, but it makes a very awkward setup, so I do not use it.  So far, in dry air I have not had a problem working sans filter. That may change next summer with higher humidity, so I may have to add a filter and or water trap.  But I will somehow find a way to add it at the compressor rather than at the airbrush end.

I was a little concerned about whether the SJ has enough flow for the Badger, but it seems to work fine.  There is no tank (I was used to tank-equipped compressors).  While I can feel the pulsation it is a very high frequency and does not show up in the paint results.
