Enamel vs. Acrylics

The smell of enamels still brings back memories of that 13 year old kid painting his models at the card table while watching Rat Patrol and 12 oclock High.

I use Acrylics because they are more widely available, cheaper, range of colors, and easier to clean up.

The only enamels I've bought recently when Walmart clearanced their "Kustom Kolor" line.

it all comes down to preference. i use both acrylic and enamel. for acrylics i use tamiya N gunze. for enamels i use model master. only down side of enamels are the smell they give off. gives me a headache after awhile. i tend to use model master acrylic sometimes but they have no bite. primer is a must if using MM acrylics. 

As said, its largely a matter of preferance. For armour and aircraft camo jobs, i prefer namels. But they do take longer to dry and have more risks, especially when spraying. I use acrylics for painting figures, and also for some Sci Fi builds.

The L E A (Lacquer Enamel Acrylic) Rule: Lacquers, enamels & acrylics can safety cover base lacquers. Enamels & acrylics can cover enamels (but not lacquers!). Base coat acrylics can only be covered by more acrylics.

It's all a matter of taste.To me enamels spray real nice,but they do smell,I like Acrylics for the cleanup,and then I weather with enamels.But I like Vallejo for brush painting.

I believe it may be preference.  I use acrylics because I like the clean up,  very fast and water based.  I will use enamels if I can not find the correct color in acrylic.  I have recieved the general rule that modelers use what they like and some use both.  I am sure I am missing quite a few more points that others may bring up.  The points are/can be a learning curve/ history/ experience.  I say try them all.
