H&S Evolution Silverline Solo

I do predominantly 1/72 aircraft models & use the Infinity, the 0.2mm set is what I use most often, with the 0.4mm only really getting cracked out for single colour coats & clears. If I had the choice of one or other I'd plump for the 0.2....

I assume that you know this, but the needle & nozzles on the Evo, Evo Silverline & Infinity are all the same, hence my comparison with the infinity.

I've wanted to try an H&S airbrush so I just ordered the Evolution Silverline Solo but I'm having second thoughts. I have several AB's including Badgers 150,100 (both older ones), Paasche model H, Iwata Revolution and Harbor Freight Deluxe. The smallest nozzle is 0.35mm so I thought at $130 the Evolution wouldn't break the bank. I didn't consider the 2 in 1 because of price and I didn't need the 0.4 mm nozzle or 5 ml cup. Now, though, I'm wondering if the 0.2mm nozzle is really practical for me. I hope eventually to be able to do detailing etc for which the finer nozzle would be useful but my current AB skills aren't up to it. It would be foolish, I think, to have the Evolution sit in a drawer because of my skills so I'm wondering. Will the Evolution Solo be useful for other than detailing - i.e. can it be used practically for general painting 1/48 or 1/72 scale? Any experience or thoughts appreciated.

With the right kind of paint and proper thinning, the Evolution Silverline Solo is a better general purpose modeling airbrush than any of the others that you have.

See this Phil Flory video that he uses the Evo. He builds mostly 1:48 and 1:32 aircrafts. You can find many more of Phil's video on YouTube or at his paid site.

Yes, I have the H&S Evolution Silverline Solo. But I use an Iwata HP-CS most of the time because I am more used to the Iwata which does everything I want. I do not do free hand detail work due to lack of skill. The H&S Evo and a Badger Krome share the bench warmer time.

Thanks for the info guys! The Evolution Silverline solo arrived this afternoon and I will keep it. No more second thoughts. Nice looking AB. I'm relieved that it is useful for other than detailing so maybe I can use it generally and,as my skills grow, for detailing  as well. Haven't tried it yet but will do so soon - have a Monogram F-80 on the bench!
