How about some of that white filter fiber used for aquariums painted green?

Its mushy and stringy like seaweed like when it is wet. Maybe use white glue to wet it.

 Ditto for cotton balls.

mimic sea weed on a wooden hull - ? - any tips?

Hello dear friends.

I'm new in this forum and, as I explained in my introduction, I'm scratch building a viking ship based on some plans of the Öseberg ship. I've been doing every single peace needed for the ship my self because, in on one hand because my scale is a little 'off scale' in what concerns to the 'standard' scales for shipbuilding supplies (I'm building in 1:49, in this case), in the other hand, I don't have much money to use in my hobbies and in yet another hand because I find the task of building each block, rope, pin, carved part or any other part very pleasant as well as being a way of improve my skills in this miniature wood works I enjoy so much.

But my point is: I'm in the final stages of this project and I've decided to make it look as if it is a ship worn by use, returning home after a few months at sea, dirty, scratched and with sea weed growing on the hull. This last one is my concern at this moment - how can I  reproduce 'realistic' sea weed growing in the wooden hull of the ship? Any ideas and suggestions will be very welcome.

I'll be posting some pictures soon.

Thank you all so much.

A big hug to you all.

P.J. Cravino.
