White can or black can Glosscoat and Dullcoat

Testors seems to have changed their formulation on the clearcoats lately.  I think the white cans are the new stuff.  The cans (white label) that I have bought recently do not even say gloss coat or clearcoat on the paper label (they say gloss clear or matt clear on a little label on the cap).

This stuff does not seem to be as good as the old stuff. It reacts with the enamel color coats more, dries slower. It is supposed to still be lacquer, but it certainly is not the same stuff. I do not like it as well, and would very much like to see Testors go back to the old stuff.  Maybe the trouble is the new EPA regulations.

I have some older cans of Testors "Gloss Cote" - cans are black and the number is 1261.  It says it is a lacquer.

I also have some newer product under the Model Master name.  The cans are silver with narrow colored bands near top of paper label.  I have semi-gloss, #1959 w/blue bands, and lusterless(flat) #1960 w/green bands.  Both are labeled lacquer.

Finally, I have 1 can of a Model Master, #28139, silver can (no bands) that says "Custom Lacquer System", Ultra Gloss Clearcoat.  I believe it was from their line of lacquers for autos.

I ve used the white can dullcoat....not too bad....careful...stuff tends to go on a bit thick...Ive also had reactions to the decals...they wrinkle......if you can get it go with the Tamiya....

I also bought a can of Testor's clear coat that said "Wet Look" on it.

I sprayed it on a cheap kit I didn't care about, to test it.  It came out fine, nice and glossy.  I would say this one is safe to use.
