Vallejo matt black (950)
Posted by zapme on Monday, March 19, 2012 4:39 AM

I'm hoping someone on this forum can shed some light on the above colour.

I've been told by a HS employee that the  Flat/Matt black has a slight sheen to it? The conversion charts match it to Tamiya XF1. Also how well does it spray through and airbrush and what medium should I use to thin it?

Many Thanks - Leo

I haven't used that particular paint through my AB but I do use Vallejo paints. I would thin it with the Vallejo thinner and maybe the slow dry.

Try it  out on a pop bottle first and see what you think.

Vallejo black does have a slight satin sheen to it as does most Vallejo colors.  If you are concerned about it you can add some Vallejo Matt varnish to it.  As for thinning Vallejo model color for airbrushing, I actually have had great success using vallejo's airbrush cleaner.  It helps with preventing the paint clogging the needle of your airbrush, as well as keeping the paint nice and thin.  If you are doing detail painting, I suggest removing the nozzle and keep a moistened piece of paper towel with the airbrush cleaner to clean the tip of the needle every few minutes.  Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks Griffen & Moses,

The reason for the thread is that I can't find any Tamiya on the shelves, and as everyone is in the same boat they are buying the Humbrol & Gunze alternatives except for the vallejo.

I think I will spray it then go over with a matt varnish.

Again many thanks for your input.

Cheers - Leo
