Just about finished.  I finally got to mounting my blower and but first i filled all the screw holes int he shelf and still need to paint.  I installed a third switch instead of the two now i have a switch for my light, blower and air brush compressor.  Man does that blower move a tonne of air.  Man i love ebay I got my blower second hand for 70 bucks.

I use a filter and I think that blower is the samme one I have. Its a squirrel cage not a fan and without a filter it will get all gunked up and be hard to clean.

I have a question for you guys. Is it necessary to have a filter in front of the fan? I took mine out. I suppose they are only there to keep the fan from getting all gunked up?

The hinge allows it to fit tight in the window. It pops in there. Without a 'break', it was too tight to fit in the window.

Hello;

Whats the hinge in the center for. I like the lovered thing on there. Mine is similer but just with a big coupling on it to fit the metal dryer hose.

Ahh. I see what you mean. How to mount it onto the rectangular area, bottom left?

I plan on running 5" to the exterior or 6".  Cuts the fan down less.  I mean mounting it on the side of m booth is interesting the other part is no big deal.

Coming along well. That's the exact blower I have. It came with a conformal template to bolt onto the blower, welded to a 4 inch metal tubular "sheath". Then, a few trips to home depot to get 4 inch dryer hose. There are also all kinds of couplings you can get for that. A louvered "dryer" exhaust fit into a hinged wooden (and treated) template for the window, sealed with standard insulation around the side. I fit the template in, then pull the window tight onto it. Just a suggestion..

Well here are some new pics.  I decided to fill it all and paint it.  I just got my blower in the mail.  It is a pretty big unit now I just have to figure out how i am going to duct it to the outside through the window.   I made a small hole in the side to run my compressor hose through and the electrical for the light.

Oh ya big daddy blower

The opening in the bottom is where i am running my duct out of

The guy at the motor shop that sells blowers did a calculation with that taken into consideration thus the 416 cfm blower i need.

The bottom of the booth is a completely sealed duct.  That runs to the side of the booth.  Thus why I have 6 inches from the bottom of the booth to the working platform.

I wonder how many CFM you will lose with that? Maybe not much.

Yeah I decided to buy a second hand blower which is the same one you have.  I couldn't afford to buy a brand new one that is way too much cash.  But yeah with the drop off and everything for ducting and such it should draw around 400 cfm.

I am just waiting for my ordered things to get here from California.  My blower and my LED light.

You're lucky you found a second hand blower.

I didn't know of any used examples available.

Looking forward to seeing the completed booth.

 Sprue-ce Goose:

 lowrider232:

I will be using one of the Dayton Blowers.

Looks very nice!

I bought a "Hazardous Location " blower and motor from Grainger for my project.

However, my "booth" is going to be a fairly big project.

Did you buy a similar item or something else?

Just browsing thier site...those are some pretty pricey blowers. Must be a big project.

It is.

I double checked. I use a Dayton blower. Here is the one I use, but this one is it's upgraded model. 485 CFM. I've used it for several years without a hitch. Clears the room quickly. I wonder if is the culprit for the occasional tiny lost part ??

Shouldn't the blower fan be mounted in the bottom since it is a down draft design?

I dont have the electrical skill to install switches so I bought one of those power strips that have an indiviual switch for each of six sockets.

416 cfm seems about right. The first blower I bought was rated at 350 and just barely wasnt  powerful enough.

I was lucky enough to stop by a motor place today and a guy did the calculation for the size of fan i need for this thing.  The fan i need for this booth runs at 416 cfm talk about massive.  Well tonight i was in the garage and lost track of time as I was wring up switches.  One switch will be for the blower and the other is to a plug where the light and my compressor will be plugged into.  This is turning into a really great preoject lots of hours have been spent on this thing.  The whole compartment where the fan is going to be mounted to is sealed with silicone as i sealed it up when i installed the panels.  The blower is on its way as well as an LED light.  The blower should fit nicely between the switches and the receptacle at the rear.

Nice!!!

Very similar in size and design to mine. I didn't have the patience to angle mine back at the top like you did. Please keep posting as I'd like to see it when you have finished .

I'd be very interested in how your solution at the bottom works (the peg board).

The work progressed today but couldn't get the whole thing finished just yet.

Have to finished up the exterior skins.

Have to wire it and install the fan.

This is what it looks like now the peg board has the filter under that I can insert from the front.  Fan is gonna be mounted on the side this is a nice downdraft unit.

could you post a pic? I think we'd all like to see it...

I can get a pic of it up soon. It's about 3 ft X 2 foot.

Lowrider. The LED lighting sounds great. Mine has one of those dual lamp incandescent "kitchen" undermount lights on it. It produces a slight bit of heat, which may be good for accelerating Laquer or Enamel drying, when the "door" is closed? Haven't tried that yet though. At any rate, sure looks like you can build just about anything you want in your booth. Even 1/350 scale ship hulls, etc. Looking good...

I am putting more of this monster together today.  I will take more pics as it comes together.  I am thinking this will be the biggest booth i have seen on the net thus far.

I will be using one of the Dayton Blowers.  I found some on ebay for a good price.  I had intended to use a bathroom fan first before doing some research and found out i could start my house on fire.  It is gonna be a monster downdraft booth.  The filter will sit under a piece of peg board.

I am planning on finding some LED lighting to install as they do not produce heat .  This thing will be a monster of a booth but I want to be able to spray anything in it.

I have a B-52 Stratofortress that i am going to build in the future that needs a massive booth to build in.

The blower is gonna be mounted on the left side and be vented through the window.  I was getting complaints from my sister and her bf about paint fumes  so until it is built I am not spraying anything else.
