Floquil reefer white..enamel?
Posted by MikeV on Friday, February 6, 2004 6:07 PM
Floquil's line of railroad colors like reefer white are enamel paints correct?

Does Floquil make any lacquer based paints anymore or have they all gone to enamels and acrylics?

Mike

I believe that Floquil RR paints are laquer. If you don't paint Floquil's Barrier over styrene and apply the paint with a brush, it will literally melt the plastic. If you shoot it on with an airbrush, it goes on well using 2 or 3 very thin coats. Just don't try to strip it off because it won't lift. Back in the '80s and early '90s FSM ran several articals on the use of Floquil RR paints on styrene models.

Several years ago Floquil released a line of enamel military colors but I don't believe that reefer white was one of the colors.

Thanks Quincy.

I bought a bottle of the reefer white Floquil yesterday and it isn't lacquer from the smell of it. I remember buying some of the RR paints years ago and they definitely were lacquer as that smell is unmistakable. Wink [;)]
