MM metalic paint over Floquil silver?
Posted by echolmberg on Thursday, April 12, 2012 1:22 PM

Hi guys!

I'm at that stage where I'm ready to paint my 1/48 F-89.  I picked up a couple of Floquil colors to try for the very first time (Old Silver and Platinum Mist).  I was thinking of using MM metalizers to highlight certain panels but I wasn't sure if the two paints were compatible.  Can I use the MM metalizers over Floquil or should I apply a clear coat between the two?  I've used MM metalizers over MM enamels with disastrous results!

I've heard lots of good things about the Floquil paints and I can't wait to try them out!

Thanks,

Eric

Testors has been changing a lot on their paints lately, so rather than depend on other folks experience, which could be a bit dated, I'd try a test on some scrap as a better way to ensure compatibility.  I think all paint mfgs these days may be making changes because of EPA rules and other reasons.  Blister pack pieces, old kits, sheet styrene from hobby shops are good sources of pieces to try these kind of paint tests on.
