Except for the difference between gloss and matt clearcoats.  If you are using a matt clearcoat and it gets on modern canopies it looks weird.  For older aircraft very susceptible to UV damage it may look okay, but most modelers still avoid dull clearcoats on transparencies (simulating good, hardworking ground crews).

You can, in fact, use Tamiya, Testors or any other acrylic clearcoat. However, Future/Klear is much. thinner and seems "wetter" than the aforementioned clearcoats. This means that when you dip your clear parts, it adheres better, yet runs off more readily leaving a thinner coating (I know this statement sounds self-contradictory, but it really isn't).

Why do people use Klear instead of say tamiya or testors clearcoats. Will using any clearcoat do the same job just as well? especially on canopies.
