Gravity Feed Airbrush Bowl Cleaning
Posted by pilotjohn on Sunday, July 29, 2012 5:49 PM

I have the Patriot from Badger and have been using it for several weeks and I am getting the feel for it.  I have been cleaning the brush after each session by blowing through some water, then thinner, then water again.  I then pull and clean the needle with thinner and then assemble and blow some water.  Works fine.

Today I was doing a longer session with flat white as a base for some light blue and yellow on a Bf 109.  I did not put the cap on the bowl of the brush.  I had no spills or spraying out, but when I was done the inside of the bowl has been for the most part painted white.  I tried some thinner and cleaner (both for acryls) on a swab and can't seem to get anywhere with removing the paint from the inside of the bowl.  Should I be concerned?

Thanks.

John

Your paint thinner should have been able to remove the dried paint. Failing that, something like Windex should clean it up. If that doesn't work, you can move to something a little stronger like alcohol or lacquer thinner.

Remember that if it's coating the bowl of your airbrush, it may also be in the paint path. If it continues to build up, it will restrict the paint flow and cause problems down the track.

Phil;

Thanks.  I decided to bite the bullet and just disassemble it and give it a good cleaning.  A little trouble getting the trigger back just right, but finally did.  Water and thinner and some wiping cleaned it out.  A small dental brush also and then back together.  Sprayed tonight and it works fine.

Thanks again for the advice!

John
